Skillful Use of the Skinny Jean

Skinny jeans are essential for anyone who loves wearing boots or heels.  Worn correctly, skinny jeans can both slim and elongate the body.  My preferred skinny jean is slightly faded and more casual, but a darker wash gives a more formal look and enhances the slimming effect of the jean.  Here are some of my favorite skinny jean outfits.  Many of them use other essential pieces and most are easy to recreate.

The Bountiful Blazer

The blazer, much like the white button-up shirt and the grey pencil skirt, is often used only as business attire.  However, this wardrobe staple can easily dress up any outfit.  A well tailored blazer can even offer feminine curves to an otherwise shapeless ensemble.   My blazer of choice is a navy, single-button blazer with rolled sleeves.

The Polished Pencil Skirt

Most people think of a pencil skirt as nothing more than business attire.  While it is true that a well-fitting pencil skirt is perfect for the office, it is also true that this essential wardrobe staple is quite versatile and can be dressed up or down.  My go-to pencil skirt is a grey cotton-blend, which makes it comfortable and chic, but virtually any pencil skirt will work well with these outfit ideas.

The Crisp, Clean and Classic White Button-Up

A fitted White Button-Up shirt is an essential piece of any stylish wardrobe because it is incredibly versatile and can easily elevate the “classy” perception of an outfit.  The white button-up shirt makes almost any outfit look well thought out and well put together.  Here are just a few of my favorite ways to wear this classic piece.  Remember, almost all of these outfits can be tailored to what is already in your closet.  Just get creative!

The Lively Little Black Dress

It took me years to find the perfect little black dress in my price range.  When I finally found it, I was enraptured.  Excitedly, I brought it home and tried it on once again to make sure that it looked the same in my mirror that it did in the store’s dressing room.  Then I set to searching the web to find out how many different outfits I could make with this essential fashion staple.  After hours of surfing the Net, I was sorely disappointed.  Every article I found suggested things like “Pair your LBD with bright colored pumps,” and “Wear it with your hair up!”  All of the obvious suggestions left me wondering, where was the creativity?

So, I challenged myself to find as many cute and “wearable” outfits as I could using my new Little Black Dress.  I plan on this being a “living” article.  I will update it when I come up with new ideas.  Keep in mind that most, if not all of these outfits are versatile.  You can probably recreate many of them using clothes that you already own!  Get creative.  Imagination is the fun of fashion and style!
